The Fabulous Thunderbirds

Live in Houston Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

This concert film by The Fabulous Thunderbirds is great stuff. Their brand of blues rock works really well, and the club setup here with people dancing out front seems to suit them well. They perform a nice set of tunes that includes their better known pieces, “Wrap It Up” and “Tuff Enuff.” I have a couple observations about the band. First Nick Curran’s look doesn’t seem to fit. He looks more like he’d be at home playing with Green Day. That’s not an insult or really a complaint. It’s just an observation. For me, the star of the show was Kirk Fletcher. That man performs some serious magic on the fretboard. Don’t get me wrong, everyone does a great job. I just think he shines brighter than the rest. The video and audio here are both excellent. If there is a complaint to be made, it’s that there aren’t any bonus materials here. The concert film is strong enough to stand on its own, though.
