Nazareth

The Fool Circle Tour 1981 Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

I have been a big fan of Nazareth for many years. I saw them live quite a few times over the years. I think I might have seen the exact tour from which these performances were pulled. Yes, this isn’t material from a single show but rather from two different shows. It’s all assembled with other footage to create a concert film experience.

The performances are great, and we get an excellent selection of songs. The audio is good enough. The video definitely leaves something to be desired, though. I get it. The options for live video at the time weren’t great, but this is not as good as a lot of similar stuff from the time period. That makes its inclusion on Blu-Ray seem a little odd. If anything, the higher resolution of the format seems to make the video look even worse.

As much as that issue detracts, the songs and the performances are good enough that this is still worthwhile. I wish they had augmented it with some quality bonus material, but we just get the live footage. Again, this is worthwhile. Just don’t expect too much from the video standpoint, and you will be happier about it.
