Necronomicon

The Final Chapter

Review by Gary Hill

There are quite a few bands with the name Necronomicon. This one is the German metal band. This album has some seriously ferocious metal. Musically it reminds me of King Diamond pretty frequently. There is nothing weak here, but the set doesn’t vary a lot. Then again, as strong as this is, that doesn’t really matter all that much.

Track by Track Review
I Am the Violence
They bring the fury to start the album. This is pounding, furious and fierce. There are hints of NWOBHM and plenty of thrash built into this.
The Final Chapter

If anything, the title track is even faster and meaner. I really love the guitar solo on this, but everything about this track is amazing.

Wall of Pain

The onslaught continues with no sign of weakening. This is more driving, intense heavy metal.

Purgatory

A processed spoken voice with effects starts this, feeling spacey and cinematic. Eventually they bring the metal to drive out from there. It’s another powerhouse metal stomper.

Burning the Fury

Driving furious metal is on the menu here. It’s not a big change, but it is a great tune.

Spilling Blood

The opening movement on this is intricate and melodic. It’s almost proggy in some ways. That eventually gives way to more of a power metal arrangement that’s driving and classy. It does get intense and furious at times.

Selling Nightmares

Particularly pounding and driving, this has some killer guitar soloing built into it. It’s one of the highlights of the set for me.

World on Fire

Another metal powerhouse, while this is no big change, it really does a great job of delivering the goods.

The Devil's Tears

Angry and meaty, the metal here isn’t unique, but it is really strong. This is one that, other than the vocals, reminds me a lot of King Diamond.

The Unnamed

Serieusly driving and stomping, this is one of the most intense things here. It’s manages to have some pretty cool melodies, too. This is another standout on the disc. There is a cool break that focuses on the bass with a siren over the top. Then it explodes out into some powerhouse metal jamming.

Me Against You

This is another furious and angry metal screamer. It’s one of the most intense things here. It’s so mean.

Stormreaper

Intricate, proggy jamming makes up the first minute of this track. They shift to more pure metal from there, but of that prog influence still remains in the mix at times. This closer is complex and dynamic, but also potent metal.
