John Mayall

John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - Up Close And Personal: Live In Texas Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

When you talk about British blues, John Mayall has to be at the center of that conversation. This Blu-Ray finds Mayall in fine form. The title might give the impression that this is one concert, but the footage is actually from two different shows, more or less a year apart. lineup of the band is the same in both shows, and the video and audio quality is compatible. There are some odd linking sections that seem to throw off the flow even more, though. The shows are from 1998 and 1999, and there are eight tracks here between the two shows. It’s easy to gripe about wanting more music included or the fact that it’s devoid of bonus tracks. The fact is, if you want some awesome live blues, you can’t go wrong here. The performances are on fire, and the quality of the recording is definitely up to par.
