Todd Rundgren

Liars Live Blu-ray

Review by Gary Hill

This concert from 20 years ago was previously released on DVD. Now, Cleopatra is giving us a Blu-Ray of it. I have not seen the DVD version, so I can't compare the two. That said, I would say that this looks very good, but not perfect for HD.

The performances and choices of songs are great. The staging at times doesn't seem to capture that well on camera with the lighting and other aspects playing weird tricks. Still, it's well worth watching and any issues seem more like nit-picking to me.

There are a couple cool bonus features, too. One is a tour scrap book, while the other is a video diary. Both of those have their charms, but the main concert video is the real selling point here. It works really well, too. You can't really go wrong with Rundgren, but this might be one of my favorite of his live performances captured on video.
