Ella Fitzgerald & Count Basie

Ella & Basie: The Perfect Match DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Normally I'm very much anti-AI. There are uses where I find it valuable, though.  For instance, when it enabled the remaining Beatles to separate the vocals and piano from a John Lennon demo in order to expand it into a new Beatles song, I think that was a worthwhile purpose for AI.

This video was made possible via a similar usage of AI. This time around they cleaned up the audio and video from a historic and compelling performance from two jazz greats. Again, this is an excellent use of AI.

It has also created a cool video. These two performers are so good, and the whole show is like a lesson in how certain types of jazz should be presented. Or at least it could be seen that way. Bravo to the producers of this video both for showing how AI can be used ethically and in bringing this show to life in a way that works for modern devices.
