Free to Rock 2 Disc DVD Set

Review by Gary Hill

This is a two disc set. The first disc is the original documentary. The second disc is essentially the documentary about the film in terms of bonus and additional footage. That might seem overkill, but the main documentary is worth all the effort.

The main story of the documentary is about how rock music really was a huge part in the fall of the Soviet Union. The documentary includes so many interviews and so much footage. It is a compelling story. It is powerful. Interestingly enough the people interviewed includes not only many Russian rockers, but also Jimmy Carter and Mikhail Gorbachev along with Scorpions drummer Herman Rarebell and Billy Joel. This is a simply amazing tale.

The second disc is intriguing, too. Still, the first disc is a “must see.” It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. I can’t recommend this enough.
