Allan Holdsworth and Alan Pasqua

Featuring Chad Wackerman and Jimmy Haslip DVD

Review by Gary Hill

For those who can’t get the chance to see the show in person, this is the next best thing. For those who have seen Holdsworth in the concert setting this will definitely bring back memories - and entertain at the same time. Both the sound and the video on this DVD are top-notch and you can always count on a Holdsworth performance to amaze.

OK, let me say that I know that Holdsworth is technically jazz and not prog rock. But, because of the close connection between fusion and prog and due to Holdsworth’s participation in the prog supergroup UK, I chose to put it in the progressive rock section. So, what can you say about the performance. Well, if you’ve never heard or seen a live Holdsworth show, be prepared to be amazed. There is nothing like it. The group is tight and works their way through a number of varying fusion compositions and arrangements. When Holdsworth really rips there are simply no words worthy of the music. If you are a fan of fusion, or just a fan of great musicianship, don’t hesitate – get this DVD. You won’t be disappointed. There is no comparison.
