Liars, Freaks & Fools

Review by Gary Hill

If you like hard rock that's hook laden, but a bit rough around the edges, this set is for you. Every cut here works quite well, and some manage to stand out from there rest. At different times I'm reminded of acts ranging from Everlast to Ozzy Osbourne, Nirvana and Kiss. All in all, this thing just plain rocks.

Track by Track Review
Inequality
Picked guitar brings this into being. The cut shifts out from there to a metallic stomper that has a cool vibe. The vocals remind me quite a bit of Everlast. That's a good thing. This has a lot of energy along with solid hooks and really works well.
Deranged
I dig the melodic hard rocking sound on the opening here. This cut grows out there to a killer, rather crunchy, driving texture for the song proper.
Life Goes On
There is a cool raunch and roll riff that opens this cut. The track works out to a metal meats blues rock vibe. This is a no-frills stomper that's quite cool. The chorus is anthemic. At times the vocals on this cut make me think of Ozzy Osbourne just a bit.
A4

Grunge, punk and more merge on this number. While it feels a bit more DIY than some of the others, it has some killer guitar fills and works really well. I can make out both the Osbourne reference points and the Everlast ones.

Shame On You

While this is in some ways more metallic, it really reminds me of a psychedelic garage band sound from the 1960s.

Shattered Dreams
The grunge elements are all over this one. In fact, in a lot of ways it makes me think of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. This is a cool cut with a good balance between mellower and more rocking.
The Gypsy Joker
Here is a more mainstream stomper. This has plenty of hard edges. It's built around a killer guitar riff. The chorus again reminds me of Ozzy Osbourne just a little. This is another standout cut.
Rock This Night Away
This tune makes me think of Kiss. It doesn't sound like Kiss. It does, however, sound like the kind of song they would write. This is a catchy, hook-laden rocker that's very cool.
Bad Company
Another hard rocker, this isn't a big change, but it works well. The song benefits from prominent cow bell.
Let It Go
Another anthemic hard rocker, this ends the set in style. It's has hints of Kiss and Ozzy in some ways.
