Bombs Away / Covert Mission Anthem (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This digital single is quite cool. While the two songs land closest to the modern swing music type of stuff out there, it isn’t exactly a tight fit. There is plenty of rock music here, and more. However you categorize it, though, it’s good fun.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2014  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Bombs Away

There is definitely a swing music kind of vibe. Yet, this also has some hints of Dixieland jazz. It’s fun stuff. It’s a real rocker. It’s also an extended piece and has some great jamming. There is a bit of a reggae vibe going on here, too. Lyrically, it’s very much a statement on the modern world, but set up within an historical setting.

Covert Mission Anthem
This instrumental has a lot of that Dixieland thing going on, but there is also a lot of hard rock in the mix. It’s almost like The Jimi Hendrix Allman Brothers big band, if you can wrap your head around that.
