America

America & Friends – Live At The Ventura Theater Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

My biggest complaint about this has to do with that “and friends” part of the titling. For one thing, this should probably have been released as a various artists thing instead of under the America heading. The friends, Andrew Gold and Stephen Bishop, each get four songs. America only gets six. Even more annoying to me is that the section used for the menu isn’t even one of the America songs. No slight intended toward those other two artists, but having seen America live myself, I would much rather have seen a full set from them. They certainly have enough great music.

Ignoring that, this is an entertaining concert film. The video and sound are both good. I just had my hopes set on more of a full America experience. The bonus features are all worthwhile. If you are fan of America’s style of 70s soft rock, you are likely to enjoy this. It certainly has a nice selection of their hits, and the performances are good. I was just a little disappointed.
