Live: Jailhouse Rock DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Recorded at the same show as the Rose Tattoo DVD reviewed in this same issue, this is a 1993 performance. It seems that the video is pretty good here, but the sound doesn’t seem great. Particularly early on the vocals get lost in the mix. It becomes clear, when the vocals manage to stand out a little more, that at time Chrissie Amphlett is strong and gutsy, but at other times she seems a bit weak and not quite up to the task. Still, this is a great concert. I just wish they’d gotten the sound fixed before the band hit the stage. Their blend of punk rock, pop and psychedelia is compelling and I like it a lot.
