B. B. King

The Life of Riley DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve always loved B.B. King’s music. I’ve only seen him live once, but it was an incredible show. Now that I’ve seen this documentary about him, I appreciate him even more. The man came up from literally nothing and influenced music all over the world. He’s entertained people all over the world. B.B. King is a hard working man. That’s contributed to his success. The truth is, though, the man is a genuine musical artist. That’s what really made him what he is today.

This documentary features lots of great footage (but very little music). It tells the story of B.B. King from the days of segregation to nearly getting killed by a bomb intended for Martin Luther King to playing 365 days a year and more. Between all kinds of star studded interviews and all the killer footage, this is recommended to anyone who likes the blues at all. It’s just a very classy documentary.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2014  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
