Steve Hackett

The Bremen Broadcast: Musikladen 8th November 1978 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve always liked Steve Hackett, going back to his Genesis days and well beyond. I’m glad to see this live DVD coming out. It’s from a performance for German TV, so it’s an intimate venue. While that might mean that the feedback from the crowd is understated, that can actually be a plus. It lets the performance really breathe and stand on its own. Given the date of this show and the fact that it was filmed for European television, it should be a big shock that the quality isn’t up to modern standards. Still, this understandable and mostly apparent in the video, rather than the audio properties. I should say, don’t expect Genesis music here. Unlike some of his more recent tours, this show, including the extra footage, is all Hackett solo stuff, not Genesis music. That’s not a bad thing at all, though. This is an excellent performance and a highly recommended product.
