Paul Butterfield

Band - Rockpalast: Blues Rock Legends, Vol. 2 - Paul Butterfield DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Before this DVD I had heard of Paul Butterfield, but never heard him. First off, my understanding is that Butterfield has done a lot of true blues. I’m not so sure this qualifies. It’s more bluesy rock and roll with some serious soul and funk built into the mix. It’s a scorching performance from 1978. As the title suggests, this was originally from the “Rockpalast” television series in Germany. The sound is not terrible, but also not great. Of course, that’s appropriate for the time period. The same applies to the video. All in all, though, I’m glad there’s a DVD record of this scorching show. I, for one, am going to look into more material from Butterfield. This is an exceptionally hot performance.
