Progressive Rock DVD/Video Reviews

Muse

Under Review DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Right at the onset, let’s just say I’ve not really heard Muse. I’ve included them in the progressive rock section based on descriptions I’ve read and what I heard in this documentary. They might not actually fit, but I think they probably do.

So, what can I tell you about this documentary? It’s quite a good one. As I said, I’ve never heard Muse, but this definitely has me wanting to check out the group. They seem like they are probably an intriguing mix of sounds – and I like music that blends and twists genres. A lot of times these sorts of documentaries don’t have a lot of real clips of the bands. This is not so much the case here. We get quite a bit of video and still photography, but not as much audio. I can attest that this set is an excellent introduction to the group. I’d also say that it will probably be a big hit with the group’s hardcore fans. All in all, this is one of the better documentaries of its kind.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2010  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.
