The Black Crowes

Warpaint Live DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve already reviewed the CD version of this set, so, for the most part I’ll leave it to that one to talk about the concert and focus here on the video itself. You really can’t go wrong with anything when you use the name “The Black Crowes” and the word “live” in the same phrase. These guys play some smoking hot music and it really comes to its full fruition in the live music venue. The video and audio here are both quite strong – making this a must have set for fans of the Crowes. For my money it might make a good first look for those interested in knowing more about the band. It doesn’t feature their huge hits and instead looks into music from their Warpaint album. If you like your rock and roll hard edged, classic and bluesy this is definitely for you.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2009  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
