The Brothers Johnson

Best of Funk DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Like the Dazz Band DVD that’s part of the same series, this captures a concert by Brothers Johnson – another funk band from the classic era of funk. I’d say that these guys are a bit less funky and more sultry. For that reason I enjoy the Dazz Band’s music more. Still, this is good. The DVD itself is a step above because the concert is longer (by about fifteen minutes) and includes some bonus materials in the form of interviews. I’d say those items make this one an equal to the Dazz Band release despite the superior music on that one.
