The Queen Is Dead: A Classic Album Under Review DVD

Review by Gary Hill

As these DVD documentary series go, I really like the Under Review Series.  This one is no exception. For me, what makes these special is the in-depth look that is given at the musical material. In this case there is a lot of focus on what was done in the studio during the recording (provided by album producer Stephen Street).  Also present is detailed analysis of the music itself. While there are other elements at play here, to me that is what makes these things magic. They go into such detail about the creation of music that has become so ingrained into our culture. This analysis always brings a greater understanding and appreciation of the music.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2008  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
