Suzanne Vega
Live at Montreux 2004 DVD

Yeah, you probably know her for “Luka” and the remix version of “Tom’s Diner.” The thing is, Suzanne Vega is so much more than those two songs. I’ve been fascinated by her music since her very first album was released. It’s an incredibly hard sound to classify or quantify. In some ways it’s simple folk music. Still the arrangements and complexities often call to mind progressive rock. You might classify her in the “singer/songwriter” category. It’s really tough to put a finger. The thing that is without question certain is that the lady is talented. Her performance at Montreux was captured in its entirety, and it is a great one. From the power of her own material like “Left of Center” and “Solitude Standing” to a cover of the Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes” every song is captivating. They even include a few tracks from her 2000 appearance at the festival. One of the best parts of this package is the fact that an audio CD of the show is included within. That’s always a nice touch as it lets you take the music to where you don’t have a DVD player. I also really enjoy the little stories and details about the songs that Vega shares in between performances. All in all this is a great package for long time fans and those who are interested in getting their first real insight into this incredibly talented artist. I fully recommend this one.
