James Brown

Live in Montreux 1981 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

When it’s James Brown how much do you really need to say? The man is the Godfather of Soul, and for that style of music it just doesn’t get much better than this. Live performance has always been Brown’s true shining star, and this DVD presents a great show in that live career. You get hit after hit all delivered in Brown’s inimitable style. It’s a killer show captured well. There are no video bonuses, though. You’ll note that I said, “video bonuses” because they do include an audio CD of the show in the package. I always find that to be a great bonus to a DVD release because you can take the sound with you when you are away from your DVD player. All in all this is a very good DVD capturing a killer show by one of the true all time greats!
