Queen

Rock Montreal DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Originally released as We Will Rock You, this has been reissued as Rock Montreal. The truth is, the name doesn’t matter, this is a great DVD. It’s been remastered from the original film – yes film – for this release. Queen was one of the most unique and powerful bands to come out of the 1970’s and this show just plain stomps. The videography is quite good and the show is incredible. It’s certainly not possible to see the band in this lineup ever again. That makes this as close as we can get to the real experience. For those who caught them in the day, this is a nice piece of nostalgia. For the rest of us it’s a way to see one of the best bands of the era at their best – on the live stage. Freddie Mercury was simply incredible as a showman, but the whole band were among the best at their game. They make their way through a set that should please both hardcore and casual fans. I just can’t recommend this DVD enough.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2007 Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
