I'm On Fire (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

Although this artist's name is both unusual and new to Music Street Journal, the act is not entirely novel for coverage here. I should note that the online version of the name is not right, but that the site wouldn't let it be entered as the "e" actually has a line over the top of it. The name is accurate in the print edition, though. This act is a duo consisting of Geoff Gibbons and Vicky Sjohall, and we've covered Gibbons in the past. The song title might be familiar to you as it is a song that was done by Bruch Springsteen. I have to admit to being one of a minority who doesn't really like Springsteen. He seems like a cool guy, and he writes some great songs, but I just don't like his voice. So, this is a tune that is ripe for improvement in my opinion, and approve it they did.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2020  Volume 6. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2020.

Track by Track Review
I'm On Fire
The acoustic folk music like treatment on this works really well. As you might guess I prefer the vocals on this to the original. In fact, I prefer the whole tune to the original. The vocal duet really serves it well. Turning the piece into a folk styled number does a lot of good for it, too.
