Ayreon

Universe DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This starts with a future person, looking like a borg introducing the situation and setting the scene in a theatrical way. The music powers out after this extended introduction, powerful and rocking for the prologue. Then we get more narration to introduce the next piece. So begins this epic musical adventure. The narrator character returns at various points throughout the show. A massive cast of singers take the lead role throughout the performance. This show combines powerful music with massive visuals to produce a magical experience. The audio and video production here is exceptional, capturing the experience well. This a diverse and powerful progressive rock extravaganza. The word “remember forever” eventually end the main concert.

Were that the whole thing, this would be worth having, but that is just the first DVD of this two disc set. The second disc starts with a behind the scenes featurette.  The second disc is different live performances under the heading of “Try Out Highlights.”
