Drivin' N Cryin'

Scarred But Smarter (Life N Times of Drivin’ N Cryin’) DVD

Review by Gary Hill

You have to admire the passion and commitment involved here. Eric Von Haessler started this film as a journey to discover what had happened to his favorite band, Drivin’ N Cryin’. The result is this DVD. It should be noted that he essentially learned the craft along the way, and turned out a solid documentary in the process. This DVD tells the tale of a band the never got the credit they deserved. Drivin’ N Cryin’ in some ways shared ground with Von Haessler in the way that it was more about creating the music than making good business decisions. That sort of commitment ultimately cost them in terms of mainstream success, but ultimately earned them a devoted following. If you’ve never heard this group, or if you have, this documentary is well worth checking out on many levels.
