Ao Vivo DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Huge stage shows are a good thing. On the other hand, they are also a bad thing sometimes. The stage show can be used to distract or otherwise hide a musical deficiency. With Index (a Brazilian outfit), you don’t have to wonder. This isn’t anything elaborate. What you get is strong symphonic progressive rock played by four guys. Comparisons to groups like Emerson Lake and Palmer or Camel are justified. These guys obviously believe in their music and perform it with their hearts in the right place. It’s a good performance and a good DVD. This isn’t great, but it is certainly refreshing and quite entertaining. While it’s not fancy, it would serve as a great calling card to introduce this outfit to a prospective new fan.
