Iggy And The Stooges

Raw Power Live: In The Hands Of The Fans DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Is there really anyone who can compare to Iggy Pop? The guy should probably be dead considering everything he’s been through over the years. Yet, he can stand on a stage half-naked and sell it. He still delivers and so do the Stooges. This concert film was literally filmed by fans (as winners of a contest). It finds Iggy and the Stooges at their best. This is raw rock and roll, but played with a fire and precision that was unheard of in the early days of the band. It’s a bootleg video, and yet it isn’t. This is something special that really captures Iggy and the Stooges as the phenomenon they are. It’s highly recommended for fans, but also would serve as a great first introduction.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2011  Volume 5 at lulu.com/strangesound.
