Here We Are In The Years: Neil Young's Music Box DVD

Review by Gary Hill

If you come into this looking for a documentary with a lot of interviews of Neil Young or clips of him playing, you will be disappointed. However, this thing is a detailed and intriguing look at the life and career of one of the most interesting and creative people to come out of the music business in a very long time. There are interviews with Young’s friends and experts in the music business and this release documents the ideas and influences that have made Young create the music he makes. It is insightful and sheds a lot of light on the man and music. Neil Young arguably stands alongside people like Frank Zappa as most creative musician. Watching this DVD will provide a real understanding of this artist.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2011  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
