House of the Rising Punk DVD

Review by Gary Hill

CBGB’s was such a huge part of the punk rock scene. It was also such a huge part of New York City. This documentary explores the origins and history of CBGB’s connection to punk rock through interviews, archival footage and reminiscences by those who were there. It’s a one hour exploration of a big piece in the history of the musical form known as punk. Of course, it’s not complete – how can anything really be? – but it’s informative and insightful.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2008  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
