This DVD features drummer (and as we see here, also guitarist and vocalist)  Buddy Miles playing with a couple different bands in two concerts. Well, technically, although they list these as “two concerts,” the second one only has two songs. Of course, those two songs are stretched out to over half an hour.

The first concert is a full show with a group called “MST” and was filmed in 1995. This is a good concert and the band is certainly capable. It’s just not what you would cal an “on fire” performance. It seems almost too obvious to mention, but the real highlights of this set are the three songs from Miles’ days as part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Even these seem a little tepid, though.

The second concert was a performance with New Morning from the following year. This opens with a Miles doing his best Hendrix impression on the guitar – and that seriously smokes. This set is a lot more inspired and powerful than the one from the first concert. It’s too bad this wasn’t a longer show.

We also get a documentary that’s a Buddy Miles autobiography. This is cool, too and adds to the full picture. I’d have to say that the shorter concert is the one that’s worth the price of admission and the other two items are sort of icing on the cake. However you look at, though, this is a cool set.
