Remember Knebworth 1978 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I like this video. I just wish there had been more of it. The whole DVD weighs in at less than half an hour - if you don't count the gallery. It's sort of a mini documentary of Genesis Knebworth performance in 1978. I've always been a big fan of the And Then There Were Three album, and so it's cool to have this rare live clips, but really there are only two full songs performed, "Many Too Many" and "The Lady Lies." "Many Too Many" presents an odd paradox, too as we see Phil Collins in two places at the same time, center stage singing and sitting behind his drum kit, pounding the skins. These were magical times, but I don't think they were that magical. The long and short of this is - it has some cool footage and it's enjoyable, but far too short and incomplete. In some ways the best part of the whole deal is the booklet that is a reproduction of the programme from the show. I would recommend this for Genesis completists. I'd also say those who really enjoy the And Then There Were Three disc will probably enjoy this. For the rest of you, I'd say it's something that you might want to pick up when you get the chance, but I wouldn't rush out to get it.
