Band Du Lac
One Night Only Live DVD

Charities are a wonderful thing. Not only do they help people but they have the ability to gather together musical artists that would normally not share a stage together. It's not that there is any animosity between them; it's just that for charity, they are willing to put their egos aside and play whatever part is needed. Based on the interviews on this DVD, Procol Harum's Gary Brooker is the main organizer of the Band Du Lac event; which by the way, has been going on for a number of years. Some of the faces are really familiar like Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and Roger Taylor while others are not as famous like Katie Melua. Either way, each performer adds their part to the event. The songs on offer here are a mixture of hits by their respective bands. Clapton plays "Lay Down Sally," "Cocaine" and a few others, while Ringo is featured on a few tunes which include "Photograph" and "With A Little Help From My Friends." The latter seemed very appropriate considering that this concert was to raise money for the Haste Charity. The DVD gives you a total of 23 songs performed by this all-star band so you do get value for your money. The concert was filmed in typical PBS style which benefits the music. There is none of that annoying cut away, jumpy camera work. The viewer is left with up close and bird's eye views of the whole proceeding. Is this the best DVD out there? No. But it is an entertaining concert that was filmed well so really, what more could you ask for?
