Enchant have been around for 12 years now and for a band that receives extremely little media coverage, they do have a considerable fanbase. I read about them in Classic Rock Magazine and based on their description, I decided to pick up this DVD. Not only was this release great, it prompted me to start purchasing their back catalog. The first DVD (this is a 2 DVD set) is the full concert, filmed in Oakland California in 2004. The playing is exceptional with Ted Leonard and Doug Ott really shining throughout. It was recorded in a smaller venue but neither the packed house nor the band seemed to mind. The concert was also filmed in such a way that it complemented the music. Each frame was given a moment to breath before going onto the next shot. I wish more concert DVDs were filmed this way. Since Enchant are not big stars, the lighting is minimal but used to great effect creating a different mood for each song. And while we're on songs, you really do get value for money here with 23 songs. Given the amount of songs played, it would be near impossible not to play a few songs that would strike a chord with any prog fan. The band touches on all 7 albums with each album getting a least 2 songs and Blueprint of the World and Juggling 9 or Dropping 10 each getting 5.

The bonus material (all on Disk 2) consists mainly of both band and fan interviews. Each member gets their own segment where they talk about influences and equipment. Prog musicians will love this part because there is extensive information on what type of equipment they use and why. The fan interviews, while nice, are a bit long but it does show how dedicated and loyal a following they have. Plus, how many times can you watch prog fans gush over how great a band is? If you like Rush, Dream Theater, and Marillion, I suggest purchasing this DVD asap. And if you're Mike Portnoy, please take Enchant out on tour with you because if you don't, this will be the only way us poor US fans will get to see them perform.
