Dixie Dregs

Live at Montreux 1978 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Anyone wanting to see what makes the Dixie Dregs so special would do well to check out this awesome DVD. This band is so tight and purely smokes! I've read where people have been disappointed because Steve Morse is not the predominate musician in this show. The truth is, this is a Dixie Dregs concert, not a Steve Morse show. The band is a group of extremely talented musicians who all contribute to the incredible mix of sounds that is the Dregs. Part fusion, part prog, this is all awe-inspiring and potent. You really won't find a band that's better than these guys. Sure there are bands that are their equal, but these guys really rocked the stage. In addition to the Montreux performance you also get a couple bonuses in the form of the Dixie Dregs performing on “American Bandstand” and “Don Kirschner's Rock Concert.” Both of these are icing on the cake. The concert film here is the real star of the show and a great en tree it is. This one is recommended to fans of the Dregs, fans of Morse (as long as they can get over the fact that this is not a Morse solo show) and all fans of progressive rock and fusion. I can't imagine a better introduction to this legendary outfit. The sound and video are strong and the performance is top-notch.
