Rick Wakeman

The Other Side of Rick Wakeman DVD

Review by Gary Hill

For those who are Wakeman fanatics, myself included, this DVD is great. Like his CD of Yes songs, this DVD is strictly solo piano, and Wakeman shows that he needs neither fancy Moog synthesizers nor other musicians to make great sounds. All he needs are his hands and a piano. You get music from the various periods of Wakeman’s career (The Strawbs, Yes and solo) and even a Beatles medley. If that was all that was included here this set would be worth having, but there is also commentary by the man himself. It should be pointed out that will both insightful and humorous, much of what the Caped Crusader has to say would be considered “R” rated – so this is something you probably don’t want to watch with young children. Wakeman fans rejoice at getting this glimpse of “The Other Side of Rick Wakeman.”
