Lillimure

Something (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This new single is pretty intriguing stuff. The first instinct might be to think of it is a retro, jazz affair. There is a lot of that here. The thing is, there is a modern sort of angle to it, too. In some ways I'm reminded a bit of Meghan Trainor. Yet at the same time, I can hear some echoes of Rickie Lee Jones. The end result is a piece that is captivating and fresh, while still tied to the rich legacy of the past. It's also a fun cut.

Track by Track Review
Something

Cool retro jazz grooves open this cut. The vocals bring a more modern edge, but also seem informed by a lot of the old scat singing of the jazz era. This is soulful and so cool. I love the little guitar fills. The organ sounds are classy, too. There is some great energy to it. I love some of the unusual meters used on the vocal line, as well.
