Paul Maged

The Wild (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

Punk and good old fashioned hard rock merge on this. It has a bit of a DIY vibe, but that’s not a bad thing. This is a strong set that’s accessible. It’s nothing Earth-shattering in terms of originality or quality, but it’s definitely respectable and solid.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2014  Volume 5 at lulu.com/strangesound.

The Wild
I love the guitar segment that opens this. It has a real classic sound. The vocals come in over the top with this landing somewhere in the vein of psychedelically tinged alternative rock. When it powers out for the chorus, though, it is really a smoking hot heavy metal song. It drops back down for the return to the verse. The contrast between those two sounds is great.

(Editor's Note - Music Street Journal is set up for the allocation of albums, not singles - particularly not one-song singles. So, in the instances, like this one, where we've covered single song releases, we've had to make some adaptations for formatting. In the case of this one, just imagine both track review and overall review reading as one set of copy. )
