Little Feat

Live in Holland 1976

Review by Gary Hill

This classic Little Feat concert has gotten great treatment on this release. For starters the show is purely exceptional and the whole thing just rocks. If that wasn’t enough, though, they include a DVD of almost the entire show. The video and audio on that are both quite good. This is just a great live document of a killer Little Feat show, plain and simple.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2014  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Skin It Back

I love this jam. It’s funky, classic sounding and really rocks. There’s a great soulful vibe to this thing. The guitar solo on this is truly inspired. There are moments where it makes me think of Robin Trower.

Fat Man in a Bathtub
I’ve always loved this song. I think I might like this live version better than any other rendition I’ve ever heard. It’s got a great combination of jam band sounds and jazzy elements. It’s a high energy number that really grooves.
One Love Stand
There is some country in this mix on this killer jam. It’s another with a great groove to it. It’s another cool tune.
Rock And Roll Doctor
We get a lot of blues, soul and country on this smoking hot jam. It’s got some great slide guitar, too.
Oh Atlanta
This is very much a Southern rocker. It’s a killer tune that’s got some great slide guitar and hooks.
All That You Dream
Almost the first minute and a half of this is delivered without vocals. It’s another cool jam-styled tune. It has some jazz in the mix. It’s just not one of the real standouts as far as I’m concerned.
Cold Cold Cold

More of a bluesy, jazz-related jam, this is a classy one. I love the soulful vocal performance on this thing. It reminds me a bit of the Allman Brothers. The instrumental jam late in this one is a real powerhouse.

Dixie Chicken
This is another classic Little Feat tune. I love the dual guitars and the whole groove is just exceptionally tasty. We get an extended jam on this. There’s a lot of Southern rock and even some country in the mix on this.
Triple Face Boogie
Another cool jam, this is much more of a jazz piece. It’s another fun one.
Feats Don't Fail Me Now
This high energy jam is another that’s trademark Little Feat. It’s also another highlight.
Teenage Nervous Breakdown
More smoking hot Little Feat rock and roll, the guitar soloing really steals a lot of the show here.
