Dead before Dawn (Digital Single)

Review by Gary Hill
There are some weird voices and sound effects to start this off, but then very atmospheric music comes in to create the start of the real music. It grows out very gradually with an almost progressive rock like vibe to it. It’s about a minute and a half in before it powers out something close to metal.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2012  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Dead Before Dawn
There is sort of a stoner metal texture to this, but also some definite space rock in the mix. While there is definitely a NWOBHM feeling to this in some ways, it’s also not far removed from things like Sleep and Clutch. All in all, it’s a catchy tune that’s well delivered and has plenty of heavy metal thunder. It works out to a spacey kind of section at the end that has more of the progressive rock vibe to it.

(Editor's Note - Music Street Journal is set up for the allocation of albums, not singles - particularly not one-song singles. So, in the instances, like this one, where we've covered single song releases, we've had to make some adaptations for formatting. In the case of this one, just imagine both track review and overall review reading as one set of copy. )
