Mötley Crüe

New Tattoo

Review by Brian Angotti

Motley Crüe, the bad boys of rock, return and ink us with New Tattoo! There may be a new Crüe for the new millennium, but not a new sound. Motley has proven what was once good can still rock us. New Tattoo is a combination of Shout at the Devil and Dr. Feelgood. The band has never sounded so tight. Vince's vocals are strong. The riffs kick into overdrive and have you singing right along from first listen. The exit of Tommy Lee has not affected the Crüe except that, if anything, it has caused a burst of creative energy.

Again this summer, the Crüe is taking over arenas and sheds. This year Anthrax and Megadeth are joining them. New Tattoo is going to blow the die-hard Crüe fans away, while bringing new ones to the flock. Be prepared to get a New Tattoo and rock with Motley Crüe.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: The Early Years Volume 3 at garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-The-Early-Years.

Track by Track Review
Hell On High Heels
This is the first single and shows true Motley roots. With this one you get sleaze, sleaze and more sleaze-just the way the Crüe likes to do it.
Treat Me Like The Dog I Am
Randy gets to display his killer drums techniques on the fast paced rocker. The lyrics are sure to have you rocking right along.
New Tattoo
This is the first ballad and is done a little differently. At first listen is wasn't impressed, but it is sure to grow on you. It has become one of my favorites.
Dragstrip Superstar
"Drapstrip..." slams you right back from the pit stop of New Tattoo. High energy and raunchy lyrics. What else is there to expect from the Crüe?
1st Band On The Moon
Mick Mars leads off this track with a screaming guitar solo. This one is rooted with a punk rock feel. Lyrics like "I want a place that arena rock, along with the girls that want to suck my...." make this one sure be a fan favorite and summer theme song.
She Needs Rock and Roll

My favorite track, again Mr. Mars has out done himself. The music is strong and very catchy unlike the Generation Swine album.

Punched In The Teeth By Love

Vince's vocals are clear and precise. This one is sure to go over well live.

Hollywood Ending
This cut is another slower track with a big chorus and melodic guitars.
Fake
Fake
A punk flavored rocker, "Fake" is a strong song for the album. This song could have easily taken up where "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved" left off.
Porno Star
The title says it all - more sex from the boys who wanted "Girls, Girls, Girls".
White Punks on Dope

A cover of the Tubes song, this is a killer number, although it should be faster. I mean it is punk right?
